J. Cole is speaking out against the war on drugs in the music video to his TLC-assisted single "Crooked Smile."
The music video - which debuted on Wednesday - depicts a police raid on J. Cole's house that ends in tragedy when his little sister is accidentally shot by an officer. As the video fades to black a mournful rendition of the "Star-Spangled Banner" plays, then a message flashes, dedicating the video to seven-year-old Aiyana Stanley-Jones.
Back in 2010, Aiyana was shot and killed in Detroit in a law enforcement raid similar to the one depicted in the video. J. Cole concludes the video by asking people to "please reconsider your war on drugs."
Meantime, Roland Lawrence of the Justice for Aiyana Stanley-Jones Committee says J. Cole's efforts will hopefully "call us all to the table" to address the issue of injustice in America and around the world.
